The Milken Institute has ranked the Charlotte metropolitan area 26th out of 200 in its index of best performing U.S. cities.

The index ranks cities by the performance of their economies. Factors considered include growth in employment, wages and technology.

Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord ranked 23rd last year.

Charlotte Among ‘Best Cities for Singles’

September 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In a report in the Charlotte Business Journal, Charlotte NC is among the “Best Cities for Singles” according to Forbes.com.

From the article:

Charlotte has debuted on Forbes.com’s eighth annual ranking of America’s “Best Cities For Singles.”

The Queen City is No. 18 among the 40 cities on the list.

Forbes.com ranks the largest urban areas in the country according to each city’s “cool factor,” cost of living alone, culture, job growth, online dating, nightlife and the number of singles.

Atlanta ranks No. 1. Last year’s leader, San Francisco, fell to No. 2, followed by Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., which tied for the No. 3 spot. They were followed in order by Washington, D.C.; Seattle; Boston; New York; Orlando, Fla.; and Phoenix.

As a single person myself, I can wholeheartedly recommend Windsor Park as a great Charlotte neighborhood for singles. The neighborhood is close to “Uptown” – Charlotte’s dowtown area which is filling up with fun activities. However, the neighborhood is tucked away from loud highways and features sidewalks and a mature tree canopy. The homes are between 1000 – 2000 sq feet which make them easy for a single person to keep up. The yards are a good size. They’re large enough to ensure privacy but not so big that they keep you working on them all weekend.

If you’re a single person moving to Charlotte, you should definitely check out Windsor Park.
